Our Story

The Haste was built in the 1960s. She became a part of the Hillis family when Frank Hillis bought her in the 1970s. Since then, she's moved up and down the West Coast with Frank as her skipper, and now with his son Larry. Larry grew up fishing with his father and two brothers. When Frank passed away, Larry stepped into his position as captain of the Haste. To this day, Larry and his brothers continue to run the family business. As their children grow older, they too are becoming involved with the boat and learning the life of a fisherman.

The fishing industry has changed dramatically over the last three decades, resulting in the consolidation of many vessels under larger companies. The Haste has defied this trend and remained an independently owned and operated boat. We are proud to say that the Haste is among the smallest trawlers still fishing under the sole direction of her owners. This family-based approach is instilled in our business philosophy and is reflected in everything we do.
